Bansky's Newest Artwork was revealed at Glastonbury...
Friday night saw British Grime Artist, Stormzy, make history at Glastonbury Festival. The artist was the first Black British solo artist to headline the festival in its 49-year history. At 25 years old, he was also the second youngest solo act to ever headline, the youngest being David Bowie who headlined the festival in 1971, at 24.
Soon after Stormzy's incredible performance, Banksy took to instagram to reveal he was behind the vest the Grime artist performed in.
Stormzy appeared to be unaware himself that Banksy was behind the vest, commenting on Twitter that he was "absolutely f*cking speechless" after the reveal. He later wrote on Instagram:
"Last night I headlined Glastonbury in a stab-proof vest custom made by the greatest, most iconic living artist on planet earth, the one and only BANKSY." -Stormzy
The vest featured a Union Jack flag spray-painted over it in white and was stab-proof, making a bold statement on Britain's knife crime crisis and the racial inequality in the country's criminal justice system. Banksy's creation was a perfect addition to a powerful and politically-charged set that was watched by millions, and is set to go down in British cultural history. As always, Banksy chose just the right moment and setting for his artwork to reach its full effect, like only he can.
