Cut Out and Keep

A solo show from Alex Daw @ The Cole Building, London E1 6QR

26.11.09 - 29.11.09

Introducing Alex Daw. A multi-talented contemporary artist, in his debut solo show, Daw brings his warped view of the world of fashion, status and advertising via his ongoing series of compelling contemporary mementos of modern life.

Working from his studio in the middle of London's hottest art district Vyner St, Daw cuts and paints on a number of surfaces utilising anything at his disposal. Culling Fragments of pop culture, fashion and art history, Daws obsessive nature to critique and de-construct objects result in cut up magazines, paintings on canvas and glass pieces.

The resulting work is a series of sexy, sassy, glossy objects at once mocking mimicking and worshipping the cult society they are idolising. Satirising the clinical, surgical lengths to which a growing number of celebrities take their obsessive compulsion to alter their physical self.

In an age of digital dominance, with traditional objects such as books and magazines being phased to cyberspace, Daw attempts to retain some form of aesthetic tradition, concentrating on the physical beauty of a soon to be forgotten art form.

Already a collected artist, carrying a fresh and youthful energy, working across a plethora of mediums Alex Daw is an artist to watch!
