Dave White Dave White

Touted as 'the new Andy Warhol' by The Independent, contemporary British artist Dave White draws inspiration from popular culture and wildlife to create large and colourful oil paintings and limited edition prints. Interested in the struggle of survival, White is best known for his animal series in which endangered species are painted with expressive and dynamic brushstrokes in a style reminiscent of 1950s Abstract Expressionism. Pioneer of the 'Sneaker Art' movement, since 2002 White created pop art inspired sneaker oil portraits that have lead to fruitful collaborations with Nike. White was born in Liverpool in 1971, and went on to study Fine Art Painting at Liverpool John Moores University. He has exhibited his work internationally throughout the USA, Europe and Asia and alongside acclaimed artists such as David Hockney, Picasso (Sotheby's Blue Cross Centenary, 1997) and Chuck Close (New York Museum of Contemporary Art, 2010). This year White has created a hand painted Rhino for Tusk which will be displayed in London and auctioned at Christies in October 2018 alongside works by Marc Quinn, Gavin Turk and The Chapman Brothers.
